Learning Log 7

A couple of days ago was the real performance of Romeo and Juliet. It was a great experience although the build up and preparation had difficult moments. To think of it, it was still fun and after my group's act ended, everyone showed a sign of relieve. For this year's performance, a budget cap of $150 was included. We had to plan out very well on what to buy and what we could save up on. In the end, by God's grace, we managed to keep slightly below the budget cap. My group members had some conflicts and some did not seem so committed. However, I think my group did a fair job in the performance. I think one of the ways my group can improve is being more committed. When you are committed, you would try to do the best for yourself and the people around you. There always bound to be misunderstandings and conflicts. Therefore, the final product still tells everything. If everybody puts in effort in the final run, success is still possible.

Learning Log 6

This few weeks, my teacher has been using the Unseen Resource Book mostly for the lessons. Along the way, I learned many new literary devices. There are two types of devices: Imagery and Sound. Devices like Simile and Metaphor are nothing new to me, as they have been taught in primary school already. Some have wierd names like Gusatory and Olfactory. However, there are lesser sound devices but that does not make them easier to remember. Sometimes I do get confused between rhyme and rhythem because for the 'rhy''infront of both words. One is for beat or pattern while the other one is for ending sounds. I believe there are still many kinds of other literary devices in this world. We just have to understand the concept of each device and keep practising examples of them.

Learning Log 5

Firstly, we have to understand the unseen poem before attending to the questions. Read it 2-3 times, each time nothing the different sections of it. When answering the questions, we should always backup our answers with evidence for every point. There should be generally 3 parts of the answer. Interpretation or introduction should be first, followed by the evidence which is the quote(s) and finally the explanation. On top of the introduction or point, much elaboration is needed. The quotes of the certain poem or passage to the answers are likely to be short but sometimes they are long. When deciding which quote(s) to use, we should check the main part of the quote and whether it suits what the question is asking for. The main thing about solving unseen poem questions is the understanding and perception of the poem.

Learning Log 4

Its all about acting for the past 3 or 4 weeks. I learned many lessons and qualities from the acting which was a failure. My total score was 12/30, short of 3 marks from the passing mark of 15. Though I had 12 marks, I believe it was also due to the teacher's graciousness. I learned that acting should not be taken lightly, we should always make space and time for preparation. In the course of the few weeks before the acting, I did not prepare much. No props, lame costumes (garbage bag) and lousy hats. I thought it was enough for a pass. I was wrong. Well, I am not going to take this so called defeat too hard and rather as a learning point for acting in the future. Compared to groups from classes like 2Commitment, my group was poor and crappish in performance. I should have spread out my time between homework and other projects. I should have put in more effort especially in motivating my group members. For the resting of my acting for the rest of my secondary school life, I will put in a more committed heart and much more effort.

Learning Log 3

It is halfway through February and we learned about predictions. Predictions are like predicting what would happen in the future. Some of us take the predictions seriously, others do not. If the prediction is of good news , people would naturally hope for it to happen. If it is of bad news, people would try to avoid it. One story or play we focused on during the lessons on predictions was about Macbeth. In the play, three witches predicted that Macbeth would be king. When he heard this, he tried to force the prediction to make sure it came true. He used underhand means and other cunning tricks like sending people to kill other rulers. However, justice had long hands. In the end, he died. I believe we should let predictions play on on their own and not try to force anything. To be frank, I do not believe in predictions. I believe everything goes by nature

Learning Log 2

For the past few lessons, they were on superstitions and the act 1 scene 1 of a play about Macbeth. It was a lot of fun and exciting. I learnt many new superstitions. One of the most hilarious superstitions I found was the 'wear your underwear inside out, as it gives you good luck' . I was wondering if that was the reason of how strong Superman was! It was a very interactive lesson as we could share our superstitions within our own groups. For the act 1 scene 1, I was quite nervous as I had to potray 1 of the witches. I found it hard to adjust my voice though I believe in the future I can get things right. I believe acting out a charater is not easy but with loads of effort put in, I can do it. For the whole of January, I still find Literature lessons fun.

Learning Log 1

I enjoyed the Literature lessons so far. I think Mrs Woo is a great teacher. I enjoyed the lessons about Cinquains and I think they all very unique. They can still sound good even if it does not ryhmes. Also , there are so many things you can write as Cinquains. The first line would be just one word about the topic. The second line would be your feelings about the topic. The third line would be describing the topic with three wors ending with 'ing'. The fourth line would be another description but with four words. The last line would be one word that summarises the poem. I believe making Cinquains helps to expand your creativity. So far, I find the lessons good enough for me. I believe in the future that there can be improvements. But for now, I am contented.
